The municipality Selva is part of the Balearic island of Mallorca and has almost 4,000 inhabitants. Selva is thus technically one of the medium-sized cities in Mallorca and is located in the north of the island. The municipality of Selvas is located at the foot of the Tramuntana mountains and is known for its hilly landscape. In addition to the mountain up and down hill in Selva, the medium-sized city is characterized by its small streets and proves not only that Mallorca has many different facets.Unlike the places to the east or south, Selva is embedded in a rather barren and sprawling yet beautiful landscape. In addition, the place is located in the middle of a nature reserve. Quite contrary to the sea views, such as those offered in Sa Coma or Porto Cristo, vacationers can look forward to a view of the mountains and the landscape of the reserve. Other parts of the municipality Selva are the villages Caimari, Binibona, Moscari and Biniamar.

Story of Selva

The city appears in the documents for the first time in the 11th century. The name Selvas appears for the first time in the Llibre del Repartiment in 1232 as Alquería alcheria Xilvar. The name of the city is derived, according to ethnologists from the Latin Silva, which is to translate with forest. This derivation is due to the location and environment of the place very easy to understand. In the early days of the city ruled the Arab rule. This ended however when the island of Mallorca was divided by King Jaume I. He gave the land two knights, one half each. Since the 14th century, the districts have been divided into the following two parts: amarata, Valella and Es Puig. In 1300, the city was founded by King Jaume II.
