Pollença (Castilian Pollensa) is a municipality on the Balearic island of Mallorca. About 16,200 inhabitants live here and the proportion of foreigners was 22.9% in 2006. The municipality includes the towns of Aeròdrom Militar, Bellresguard, Cala Sant Vicenç, Ca'n Singala, El Vilà, Les Palmeres, La Font, Port de Pollenca and the town of the same name, Pollenca.Within the municipality, the population focuses on three main areas of settlement and most of the residents live in the main town of the same name, which is about seven kilometers from the coast, in Port de Pollenca and in Cala Sant Vicenç. The municipal area with a size of about 150 km2 also includes the entire Formentor peninsula. 

The city of Pollença, which is located in the fertile Huerta de Pollenca valley, surrounded by the mountains and a few kilometers from the coast, has a population of around 9,000 and is known as the "Capital of Culture of the North". This designation refers to the north of Mallorca, in which the place is located. The town owes its name to its many art galleries and the famous traditional music festival.In addition, the superficial appearance of the city probably contributes to this image: the ocher-colored quarry stone facades and the small, narrow streets as well as the beautifully decorated balconies give the impression that an artist was at work here. The city cafes, the seats of which are shaded by plane trees, further reinforce this impression - Pollença partly looks like it has been painted.
